Welcome to Northbeat!

 

This is the Website of Scotland's newest music agency, Northbeat. Started in November 2008 by Karin Ingram and Jacky Cooper and launched officially at Celtic Connections in January 2009, Northbeat's aim is to provide the best in live music from some of the top artists playing in Scotland, and to be an active and exceptional link between these artists and venues/promoters.

We can cater for a wide range of venues from concert halls, theatres and arts centres of all sizes, to festivals and dance events, as well as smaller clubs and community halls.

Our Dance Bands (and indeed some of our other artists) are available for weddings, parties, ceilidhs and corporate events. The Scottish Tradition encompasses many styles of dance including four that could be considered “Social Dancing” – Scottish Country, Ceilidh, Old Time and Reel Party.  These are quite different styles, requiring very different music, and it is extremely rare for a Scottish Dance Band to specialise in all of them, but four of our bands – The Glencraig Band, Marian Anderson’s Band, The Danelaw Band and Iain Cathcart’s Scottish Dance Band – do just that.  In addition, the legendary Fergie MacDonald is widely known as “The Ceilidh King” with few able to match his expertise in that genre and the title of The Glenelvan Band’s debut CD, “Real Time for Old Time”, shows where their musical hearts lie.  All of our Dance Bands have broadcast for Radio Scotland’s “Take the Floor” programme on numerous occasions, appeared on television, video and DVD and have released top-selling CDs.  When booking one of Northbeat’s Dance Bands for a function, whether it is a corporate event, party, wedding or dance, we will take all of your requirements into account and supply the band best suited for your function.  All of the bands can work with or without a dance caller to help your guests join in with the dancing.
