GiveWay

Formed in 1998, GiveWay comprises four sisters: Fi – fiddler, guitarist, vocalist and whistle player; Kirsty – accordionist and lead singer; Amy – drummer and vocalist; and Mairi – pianist and vocalist.

From an early age, music was at the heart of what the four sisters did. At the age of five Fiona started playing the fiddle; Kirsty picked up an accordion at the age of four; Amy was six when she started to play the accordion, then at the age of thirteen decided to play drums; and Mairi was playing the piano and keyboard at the age of six. The musical diversity of the group encompasses Scottish traditional and folk-jazz, vocals, harmonies and bold tunes. In the years since the sisters formed this, their own band, GiveWay has won awards at the acclaimed Scottish music festival – Celtic Connections, the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, performed on numerous radio shows, on television and at a series of high profile venues including the main stage at the Cambridge Folk Festival, Tønder festival (Denmark) and Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall. They have supported top musical acts including Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Karen Matheson and Donnie Munro as well as performing alongside Cherish the Ladies, Natalie MacMaster, Kate Rusby and Fiddler’s Bid. In the last two years (in addition to Scottish tours) GiveWay has extensively toured the USA, made numerous appearances in Europe and plans are underway for an exciting 2009.

Their debut album – Full Steam Ahead – was released in 2003 to widespread international acclaim. Their most recent eleven track album – Inspired – was released in 2005 and, as the title suggests, it featured an inspirational collection of music covering various styles – traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, foot-tapping and jazzy folk songs, rock inspired jigs, songs written by acclaimed Scottish artists including Phil Cunningham and John McCusker, and songs written by the sisters in memory of loved ones. Currently GiveWay is working towards the third album which, like the other two, will be released on the Greentrax label. This recording will be released this year.

GiveWay is available for a variety of venues and events, from theatres to festivals, both home and abroad. For more details of fees and availability please contact us.
