Craig Jeffrey -
Danny Kyle Open Stage Finale, Celtic Connections,
Craig Jeffrey played his heart out to a packed
Strathclyde suite at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in the finale of the
Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Open Stage event on Sunday 1st February. All
500+ seats were taken, with a further 200-300 people sitting on the floor at
the front of the stage or standing at the back and sides of the hall. Craig
was one of six finalists, all equal winners, and played a fifteen minute set
at the showcase concert. This was an superb demonstration of much of
Scotland's young talent, but the 23 year old singer/songwriter from Galashiels
took the place by storm, performing songs from his debut album "Don’t Blow
Away". When he sang the last song in his set - a spine-tingling cover of
Leonard Cohen’s "Hallelujah" - he had the audience joining in and raising the
roof. This young man really seems now to have made his mark on Scottish music.
At the end of the night Craig drew more than his fair share of attention from
members of the audience, which included many people from the music industry.
As well as signing autographs after the concert, Craig also spoke to many
people from all over the world at the after-show party - many expressing
interest in him for concerts and festivals.
All the finalists will play at the opening concert
for next year's Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Stage and they will also get
high profile support slots at the Festival and at different events this year.
