Eric Faulkner

 

As a member of seventies supergroup, The Bay City Rollers, Eric was to perform and write the soundtrack for a generation. However there is much more to him than tartan trousers and platform shoes!

His first public performance was at the age of twelve playing viola with Edinburgh Schools’ Youth Orchestra in Leith Town Hall.  Multi-instrumentalist Eric also plays guitar, piano, fiddle and mandolin.

The history of The Bay City Rollers has been well documented. Throughout it all Eric has maintained his dignity and integrity and has travelled on an eclectic and fascinating musical journey, playing with bands such as those of Arthur Brown and Pauline Black.  He occasionally performs with “Eric Faulkner’s Bay City Rollers”, but can more and more frequently be found playing his solo acoustic sets to great acclaim.  His strong voice has matured and is perfectly suited to folk songs such as “The Jute Mill Song” or the work songs of Pete Seeger and Ewan MacColl.  He has continued to write throughout the years and now has a large and varied repertoire of excellent original material, much of it inspired by folk tales, such as the brilliant “Idy May” or actual events like the haunting and thought-provoking “Long Way From Miami” about the massacre of The Miami Showband by the UVF.

 A self-confessed “blether”, Eric’s shows are entertaining and informative as well as musically superb.  He is in worldwide demand with regular appearances in mainland Europe.  Recent festival slots have included Guilfest, Glastonbury and Acoustic Festival of Great Britain.
